Scenic Drives

by Susan DaffronProtected by Copyscape. Do not copy.

Breathtaking views of mountains and lakes, scenic overlooks left virtually unchanged for centuries, and wildlife and native flora are just a short drive from Sandpoint. Don't forget your camera.

Go east from Sandpoint and take the "High Drive" which traverses the remote Green Monarchs range from Clark Fork to just north of Coeur d' Alene. The Kootenai Wildlife Refuge is just north of Sandpoint near Bonners Ferry. There you'll find migratory waterfowl, wild game and a wide open expanse at the base of the majestic Selkirk Range. Take Highway 2 from Sandpoint to Priest River as it meanders along the Pend Oreille River, and observe eagles and osprey all along this 30 mile trip.

From Sandpoint, you can also get to Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park and Teton National Park within a half-day's drive.
